11 spas and salons running without license in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: As many as 11 unisex spas and salons were found to be running without valid trade licenses during the inspection by GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) in the last two days.

On Wednesday, the Health branch and Enforcement branch of GMC visited the 11 Unisex spa and salons located at Dona Planet, Rudraksh Mall and at Ulubari to carry out trade license inspection. Four of them were found to be closed and the rest seven of them were found to be running their business without a valid trade license.

On Tuesday too, the GMC team had inspected Unisex spa and salons were inspected in Lakhtokia, Nepali Mandir and Ganeshguri area, out of which 3 were found to be closed. All remaining 4 were found to be running their business without a valid trade license.

"We have served notice and imposed fines and penalties on the erring spa and salons as per provision of law. Our drive will continue in the coming days," GMC's senior medical officer Dr Kumar Partha Pratim told The Sentinel.

Recently, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation had banned therapy or massage services by the opposite gender in hair-cutting salons, spas and beauty parlours.
