GUWAHATI: As per the directions of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the two-day conference of the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of the State at Duliajan recently, Assam Police launched a crackdown against teer gambling across the State on January 9. In just two days (January 9 and January 10), police arrested 123 teer gamblers and seized Rs 2,23,040 from various places. The most number of arrests were made in Biswanath and Dhubri districts - 22 people, followed by 18 arrests in Darrang district and 15 in Karimganj.

Meanwhile, continuing its efforts to wipe out illegal teer, Guwahati Police conducted six raids in 48 hours in Basistha, Bhangagarh, Dispur, Paltan Bazar and Jalukbari. These raids led to the arrest of nine persons while Rs 42, 610 and eight mobile phones were seized. Guwahati Police sources said that these raids will continue.
