1324 Cleaners stage protest in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: A total of 1324 cleaners, who worked during the Covid pandemic, staged a protest today demanding jobs as promised by the then State Health Minister.

The protestors said that the then Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma (now Chief Minister) had promised them jobs as they had to work during the pandemic risking their lives. "Now we are jobless. We met the Chief Minister several times seeking government jobs, but to no avail," one of the protestors said, and added, "If the government does not meet our demand, we will jump in the Brahmaputra nude."
