1679 driving licenses suspended

GUWAHATI, July 9: In Kamrup (M) district alone, as many as 1679 driving licenses have been suspended by the District Transport Authority from January 1 till date. This was officially proclaimed in a meeting of the Kamrup (M) district road safety committee held at the conference hall of DC Office on Monday. The licenses were suspended for not abiding the road safety norms like red light jumping, over speeding, carrying goods beyond prescribed load capacity, using mobile phone while driving and driving under influence of drinking alcohol, a government communiqué said.

Notably, the administration suspended as high as 2849 numbers of driving licenses in the previous year. Other issues also discussed during the meeting were, matter relating to relegation against 16 numbers of private school of the district for non-compliance of the Supreme Court verdict of December 16, 1997, matter relating to plying of diesel Tempo Van in metro area which are registered and permitted under DTO Kamrup, operation of taxi services in the Guwahati Air Port, illegal parking stand over Jalukbari Fly Over and application regarding parking places at Jalukbari for Tata Magic etc. by Lower Assam Motor Transport Association, the communiqué added .
