

GUWAHATI: Every year on June 29, the Government of India celebrates Statistics Day to commemorate the birthday of (late) Prof. P.C. Mabhalanobis and his contribution to statistics and the statistical system. This year, the 17th Statistics Day is celebrated on the theme Alignment of State Indicator Framework with National Indicator Framework for Monitoring Sustainable Development Goals. As a part of this celebration of Statistics Day, the Regional Office, Guwahati, and the National Statistical Office (Field Operations Division) organised a lecture on the above mentioned theme in the Hotel Tokyo Tower, Beltola, Guwahati. This was followed by a quiz on the subject, in which universities and colleges were invited to participate. In the spirit of involving students in the celebration of Statistics Day, the event was intended to promote awareness of official statistics and enlighten young minds about various facets of the Indian official statistical system, a press release said.
