Mrityunjoy 108 staff seek Health Minister's help

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The situation of corona among the employees of SBI and GVK EMRI 108 in Sanjukta Square, Lokhra building has taken a turn for the worse, leading the All Assam 108 Mrityunjoy Employees' Association to move the State Health Minister, the head of the GVK EMRI, Assam and the State Labour Commissioner seeking their intervention.

While the building has accommodation for SBI in third and fourth floors, the office of 108 Mrityunjoy is located on its second floor. According to reports, a top officer of the SBI was infected with the virus allegedly from his son. And from the SBI officer a number of his staff members got infected. Slowly as many as 19 people have tested corona positive in the building, including two from the 108 Mrityunjoy staff.

Gauzing the enormity of the threat perception, the All Assam 108 Mrityunjoy Employees' Association moved Mrityunjoy management seeking accommodation for their quarantine during which they would continue to work. However, the management made them known that they could give accommodation for 10-12 people only, a copy of the letter sent to the Health Minister by the Association said.

"Moreover some of our employees proactively visited dispensary for swab test following the order of management and they were advised and stamped of quarantine for three days and a written advice was provided to them where it was clearly mentioned that violation of such norms could be liable for legal action as per COVID-19 rules. But as per management as we deal with emergency services we do not have to follow such norms and must attend our duty. Thus these contradictions have led us to a confused state of mind – what to follow and what not," the Association said, and sought the intervention from the Health Minister.

The Association said that time and again it had requested the management to ensure social distancing and regular sanitization of the cabs, but to no avail.
