Altogether 2,33,74,087 voters will be able to exercise their right to franchise in the Assam Assembly polls-2021, states the latest update of the photo-electoral roll.
GUWAHATI: Altogether 2,33,74,087 voters will be able to exercise their right to franchise in the Assam Assembly polls-2021, states the latest update of the photo-electoral roll. Of the total voters, there are 1,18,23,286 male electorates; 1,15,50,403 females; and 398 transgender voters.Compared to the 'Final Photo Electoral Roll' published on January 18, 2021, the latest updated roll shows an increase of 3,81,582 electorates.
According to the 'Final Photo Electoral Roll', the total voters were 2,29,92,505. Of them, male electorates were 1,16,57,376 while females were 1,13,35,129. Mentionably, the 'Final Photo Electoral Roll-2021' did not specifically mention any transgender voters. However, the latest updated data have a separate column referring to the transgender electorates in the State.
According to the latest updated photo electoral roll, of the 81,09,815 total electorates for the first-phase polls, 40,77,210 are males; 40,32,481 females; and 124 are transgenders. Of the 73,44,631 total electorates in the second-phase election, 37,34,537 are males; 36,09,959 females; and 135 are transgender. For the third and last-phase polls, of the 79,19,641 total electorates, 40,11,539 are males; 39,07,963 females; and 139 are transgender.
The updation exercise of photo-electoral roll is a continuous process. It is carried out by the Election department at the district and sub-divisional levels.
According to guidelines of ECI (Election Commission of India), during election time this vital updation process is carried out only the till the last date slated for filing of nominations. As nominations have been already filed for the three-phase polls in Assam, the updation exercise of the photo-electoral roll is now "freezed" till the entire Assembly-poll process for 2021 will be completed, informed official sources.
The three-phase Assembly election in Assam is slated on March 27, April 1 and 6, 2021. Accordingly, citizens were allowed to apply for inclusion of their names in the photo-electoral roll up to March 9 for the first-phase polls across 47 LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) in 12 districts; March 12 for the second-phase polls across 39 LACs in 13 districts; and March 19 for the third-phase polls across 40 LACs in 12 districts.
