GUWAHATI: Despite the Durga Puja celebrations being a low-key affair this year, a total of 301 road traffic accidents were reported during the four days of celebrations across the State.

According to a report by Mrityunjoy 108 ambulance service, 50 cases were reported on October 23, 69 cases on October 24, 87 cases on October 26 and 95 cases on October 26.

The maximum number of road accidents took place in Sonitpur district with the number reaching 39. This was followed by 32 cases reported in Kamrup (Rural), 21 in Nagaon, 18 in Cachar and 16 each in Golaghat, Bongaigaon and Dibrugarh.

Kamrup (Metro) registered four accidents during the days while the least number of cases were reported from Dima Hasao with only one accident.

It is to be mentioned that the maximum number of accidents took place on Bijoya Dashami. A total of 95 cases were registered from all across the State during the day. However, Kamrup (Metro) recorded no accidents during the day.

The number of cases has dropped significantly if compared to last year. In 2019, a total of 472 accident cases were registered during Durga Puja by Mrityunjoy 108 ambulance service across the State. While Kamrup (Rural) witnessed the maximum number of accidents with 65, Kamrup (Metro) registered 28 cases in 2019.
