Guwahati: Owing to a massive spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Guwahati, the city is being geared up for yet another lockdown. This time around, when the lockdown hits, the Government has ordained that only 10% of the bank branches will be kept open, for the convenience of the public.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the Regional Manager of the State Bank of India (SBI) has decided which branches of the bank will be kept open for public transactions during the lockdown period. The bank authorities have decided to keep 4 of its branches in the metropolitan area. They are:

Guwahati Medical College Branch

Maligaon Branch

Assam Secretariat Branch

Guwahati Airport

It needs mention here that as per the Assam Government's directive, only 10% of the bank branches will be allowed to open during the lockdown period. These branches will be functioning with a 'skeletal staff. "Only 10% of bank branches will be opened in the districts, and the bank officials will decide which branches will function with a skeletal staff. The bank officials will give special passes to the employees who will be allowed to work. Only those employees who have been earmarked for work shall be allowed transit", Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta informed in a presser held earlier today.

Gupta said that only 3 categories of people will be allowed to enter the city during the total lockdown period. "First, the people who have to come to Guwahati to board flights, secondly, the people who have to board trains, and thirdly, those who have come to the city due to some medical emergencies."

A complete lockdown will be clamped in all the areas of the metropolitan district owing to a dramatic rise in the coronavirus curve. Yesterday alone, the city area reported as many as 2013 Covid-19 cases.
