400th birth anniversary celebration of Lachit Borphukan: March past taken out; street play staged

GUWAHATI: In line with the efforts being made to promote and spread the patriotism and valour of the heroic commander Lachit Borphukan at an all-India level along with Assam, the celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan was inaugurated in Kamrup (metro) district on Friday. On this occasion, a march past was taken out from Khanapara to Janata Bhavan with the help of the police, army, NCC etc. and a street play was performed. Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Partha Sarathi Mahanta and Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, led by Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Harmeet Singh, flagged off the march past. Before the march past, the Kamrup (metro) district administration, in collaboration with the district transport department, performed the street play Mahanayak Lachit as a mark of respect to his bravery. This play has been written by Rashmirekha Saikia and Praveen Saikia and directed by Praveen Saikia.
