GUWAHATI: In a major achievement for Guwahati Police, a special squad led by Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP), Guwahati, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, and assisted by Gorchuk Police, busted a huge consignment of 500 kg ganja worth around Rs 3.5 crore at Gorchuk on Tuesday morning.
The ganja was seized from a truck (NL-01 AA-3038) which was coming from Tripura. Four smugglers were arrested. They have been identified as Manish Kumar, Dinabandhu Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Nabin Kumar – all from Bihar. The truck was seized.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated Assam Police for this seizure. He tweeted, "#AssamAgainstDrugs @GuwahatiPol intercepted a truck coming from a neighbouring state and seized 500 kg ganja at Gorchuk, Guwahati. Also apprehended four accused. Great efforts by @assampolice in combating the drug menace. Keep it up. @DGPAssamPolice"
