GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by a 60-year-old man in Guwahati's Noonmati area.

According to reports, the incident came to light after the victim girl was found to be pregnant, and later revealed to her family that she was raped three months back by a man named Suren Barman, the secretary of the village defense party in Sankar Nagar of Matghoria.

The family then approached the local Mahila Samiti for help, following which an FIR was registered against Barman at Noonmati police station.

According to Mahila Samiti's complaint, Barman threatened the victim's family with dire consequences after he came to know that the girl was pregnant, thus forcing her to abort the baby.

The accused is currently absconding and an investigation has been launched.

Earlier in such a similar incident, a 60-year-old man got arrested by police officials in the Kamrup district of Assam.

He was arrested for allegedly raping a woman. Along with him, three other persons were accused of this horrific act.

As per the sources, the old man has been recognized as Habibur Rahman, whereas the other three have been identified as Abdul Mannan, Samsher Ali, and Mazid Ali.

The Santoli Police informed that the incident took place at Jawkatadia village in Boko town in Kamrup district. The police stated, as per the complaint, that the woman was taken to a paddy field and raped by those three men when she went out with them in the guise of loaning her cash. Afterward, the three carried the woman to Habibur's house where they kept on raping her there.

Apparently, the local people rescued the woman from Habibur's house and from that point, lodged a complaint against them. The police further said that when a police group arrived at Habibur's place after the complaint was gotten, Abdul, Samsher, and Mazid had already escaped from the spot.
