68.30% pass CBSE  class XII in Northeast

GUWAHATI, May 26: Altogether 68.30 per cent students from the eight states of the North East have cleared this year's CBSE Class XII examinations, the results of which were declared today.

All eight States, including Sikkim, fall under the Guwahati zone of the CBSE. Altogether 50,876 students took the examination in science, arts and commerce streams in the zone.

At 71 per cent pass, girls fared better than the boys (65.8 per cent). The pass percentage of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas was 94 per cent, while the Kendriya Vidyalayas notched 96.5 per cent, independent or private schools scored 81.90 per cent, government schools and government aided schools registered 57.90 and 50 per cent respectively. The government schools of Arunachal Pradesh have always been poor performers under the CBSE's Guwahati zone. Their results have not improved despite receiving regular instructions from the CBSE office.

Don Bosco School, Pan Bazar in the city has once again performed impressively in the Class XII final exams results. Out of 241 students who sat for the exams from science, commerce and humanities streams 78 scored more than 90 per cent average marks and 99 above 80 per cent average marks in all subjects. Priyakshi Goswami was the topper in the science stream by scoring 96 per cent marks while Sanskar Surekha and Smarsmika Barua were the toppers in commerce and humanities streams by scoring 97.4 and 96 per cent respectively. Expressing delight over the results, the school principal Fr. Sebastian Mathew said, "All the 241 students have fared well. They worked hard and it paid off. The teachers' efforts and blessings also played a part." Countrywide, the overall pass percentage is 83.01, up one per cent from last year, and the top three regions are Trivandrum with 97.32 per cent, Chennai with 93.87 per cent and Delhi with 89.
