GUWAHATI: Acting on a tip-off, a team of officers led by Deputy Commissioner of Customs (Prev) Division Guwahati Om Prakash Tiwari seized 68 metric tonnes of areca nut of foreign origin with three carrier trucks from 9th Mile area, Khanapara on Monday. The seized goods were on its way to Bijni and Falakata in West Bengal.
The consignment is believed to be smuggled from Myanmar through the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram. Three persons were apprehended in connection with the seizure. It is to be mentioned that the market value of the seized goods is around Rs 2.55 crores. The further investigation is on.
