787 road traffic accidents in 4-day Durga Puja in State

GUWAHATI: Like every other year in the past, the Durga Puja this year has also been marked by a large number of revelers meeting with road traffic accidents in the State. These accidents are only the ones that have been attended to by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Services. During the four days in the Durga Puja, the State has witnessed as many as 787 road traffic accidents that have been attended to by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Services. There have been other cases of accidents as well in the State during Durga Puja festival.

According to sources, on October 16, 2018, the State witnessed as many as 198 road traffic accident cases that have been attended to by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Services. Kamrup district has topped the list with 27 road traffic accidents, followed by Kamrup (M) with 16 accidents and Dhemaji and Sonitpur coming third with 15 such cases each. There have been 18 assault cases in the State on that day.

On October 17, the State had 214 road traffic accidents. On that too, Kamrup district has topped the list with 33 such cases, followed by Kamrup (Metro) with 21 cases and Sonitpur and Nagaon coming third with 16 such cases each. The day has also witnessed 17 assault cases in the State.

October 18 (Navami) witnessed as many as 134 road traffic accidents. As usual, Kamrup district has topped the list with 18 such cases. It has been followed by Kamrup (M) with 12 cases and Jorhat district has come third with 11 such cases. The day had 16 assault cases in the State.

The State has been witness to as many as 141 road traffic accidents on October 19 (Dashami). Yet again Kamrup has topped the list with 18 such accidents, followed by Baksa with 11 such accidents and Golaghat and Kamrup (M) coming close third with 10 accidents each. The day also had 21 assault cases in the State. It has been noticed that Kamrup and Kamrup (M) districts have been infamous for road traffic accidents in the State topping the top two positions respectively. This is the price that is being paid for the unruly merriment during the Durga Puja.
