87-Year-Old Woman Charred to Death in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident, an 87-year-old woman was burnt to death at her residence in Kharghuli area of Guwahati on January 6.

According to reports, the 87 years-old identified as Dhanamaya Biswakarma was burnt while she was sitting near the fire in the morning hours.

Meanwhile, the house of the woman was also gutted in the fire. However, the reason for the fire has not yet been known.

Fire tenders reached the spot and were able to douse the flame. Police also reached the spot and started the initial investigation.

With the mercury level dripping the early stage of 2021 it is reported that many households in Assam are accustomed to having a bonfire in the early as well as later in the day.

It is to be mentioned that with the dry season around the corner it is very dangerous to have such activity in a close atmosphere as it may lead to the untoward situation.

Earlier on January 5, two minors were charred to death at Nayanagar village in Kokrajhar district of Assam.

The family members and neighbours tried to douse the flames but could not rescue the children.

The deceased identified as Archina Kisku (4) and Moniram Hembram (5) were playing near their house when they accidentally caught fire from a nearby heap of dry jute around 11 am.

Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to his official Twitter handle and posted the following tweet, "Deeply anguished to learn about the fire at Kasugaon, Gossaigaon, which resulted in the death of two children- Arshina Kisku and Maniram Hembrom. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved parents and family members."

In Guwahati, fog or mist occurred during early morning hours. The minimum temperature was 11 degree Celsius while the maximum will be 27 degrees.

The National capital will experience a generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle. The temperature will vary between 12 and 22 degree Celsius.
