Assam: 90-day Child Protection Awareness Campaign Launched in Kamrup District

 GUWAHATI: A 90-day awareness campaign on child protection, titled Suroxito Xaishab Sonali Axom, was also inaugurated in Kamrup district on Monday in a function held at the Conference Hall of the Integrated Deputy Commissioner Office Kamrup, Amingaon. The programme was inaugurated by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup, Sujata Gogoi. District level officers of the department like police, health, the Department of Women and Child Development, P&RD, representatives of NGOs, etc. also participated in the programme.

The programme started with the Assam State Anthem performed by the children living in Sishugram Children Village, a children’s home for girls situated in North Guwahati. The District Child Protection Officer delivered the welcome speech. In her speech, she stated that children in a society could be protected only when all the departments worked in convergence. And without awareness at the grass-roots level, it would not be possible to create a protected society for children.

In her speech, the Deputy Commissioner urged all the departments to come forward hand in hand to create awareness on child protection issues. She also stated that this 90-day awareness programme should only be the beginning of our work to end social evils like child marriage, child trafficking, child labour, etc. The aim of the programme is to create awareness about child protection in every nook and cranny of the district in cooperation with all line departments. A signature campaign was also started today in this regard.

Simultaneously with the programme, child labour rescue drives were also conducted in different parts of the district on Monday. 18 child labourers had also been rescued today from different parts of Goroimari and North Guwahati Revenue Circles, stated a press release.
