GUWAHATI: In sync with the directives issued by the Supreme Court of India, the District Transport Department of Kamrup (M) has instructed school authorities to install CCTV cameras, GPS (Global Positioning System) and siren facilities in all school buses.

The District Transport Officer of Kamrup (M) had a meeting with the stakeholders of private schools on Saturday and said that the department would be strict given the directives issued by the Supreme Court to all schools.

According to the directive of the apex court, the colour of all school buses should be yellow, and each school bus must have a female attendant and a male attendant. Also, the drivers of school buses should have over five-year experience.

The directives also reduced the speed limit of buses to 40 km per hour from the existing 60 km per hour. School buses carrying students cannot overtake any other vehicle.

The District Transport Department asked the school authorities to follow the directives strictly. It said the violation of any order would lead to a fine and confiscation of vehicles.
