GUWAHATI: The All Assam Goods Carrying Association (AAGCA) expresses its concern and seeks clarification regarding the status of the letter to the Commissioner of Transport from the Deputy Secretary to the Government of Assam, Transport Department, Dispur. The said letter pertains to the crucial matter of freight.

The letter stated that the Deputy Secretary to the Government of Assam, Transport Department, unequivocally directed that “the proposed revision rate for fare and freight of commercial vehicles may be placed before the next STA (State Transport Authority) meeting for necessary consideration.”

President of AAGCA Abdul Mazid said in a press meet, “This directive was issued with the objective of streamlining and updating the freight charge structure for goods-carrying vehicles operating in Assam. However, to the dismay of the goods-carrying industry and other stakeholders, there seems to be a significant delay in implementing this crucial directive. Despite the passage of almost four years since the issuance of the directive, the proposed revision rate for fare and freight of commercial vehicles has not been presented before the STA meeting for necessary deliberation.”

“AAGCA, on behalf of its members and the broader commercial transportation community, seeks transparency and accountability regarding the status of the letter and the subsequent actions taken by the concerned authorities. The delay in implementing the directive has left the industry in a state of uncertainty, hindering its ability to plan and operate effectively. The association urges the relevant authorities, including the STA and the Transport Department, to promptly address this matter and provide an explanation for the delay. A clear timeline for the presentation of the proposed revision rate before the STA meeting is of utmost importance to ensure a fair and efficient system for freight charges that aligns with the evolving economic landscape,” he added.

AAGCA remains committed to fostering a productive and collaborative relationship with the authorities for the betterment of the goods-carrying industry, ensuring its continued contribution to the state’s economy, stated a press release.
