AASU-led anti-CAA protest with 30 other ethnic organizations organized in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A state-wide demonstration opposing the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was organized by All Assam Students’ Union along with 30 other ethnic organizations on Tuesday.

The protest was held at various regional units of AASU and in Guwahati, the demonstration was staged at Dighalipukhuri. As per reports, the next phase of the protest will include protest meetings at various AASU state units and Padyatras. A human chain protest will be organized on February 01 at every regional unit of AASU to oppose the contentious Act as the continuous demonstrations aim to pressurize the people’s representatives. In a statement, AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said that “the non-violent protests will continue to oppose the wrongdoing of the central and state government.”

A protestor demonstrating in Dighalipukhuri said, “Modi government is insulting the people of Assam who are protesting against the CAA. They are ignorant towards us but we will not accept defeat and will continue our agitation.”
