AASU pays rich tribute to Bhupen Hazarika

GUWAHATI,: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Saturday paid rich tribute to “Bard of Brahmaputra” Bhupen Hazarika with a cultural programme, Uddipana at Dighalipukhuripar to mark the music maestro’s 92nd birth anniversary. The annual event of the AASU, Uddipana featured the best singers from colleges and universities across the State, who presented Bhpen Hazarika’s immortal songs on the occasion remembering the cultural icon.

The programme, Uddipana was begun by paying tribute to the statue of Bhupen Hazarika located at the Dighalipukhuripar. Attending the programme, Asian games gold medalist Hima Das said, “I have largely been inspired and encouraged by the life and works of Bhupen Hazarika.”

From Dighalipukhuripar, the AASU led by its president Dipanka Kumar Nath, general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya who were accompanied by hundreds of students from various colleges and universities also visited the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Khetra at Jalukbari to pay homage to the maestro. The programme continued at the site throughout the day.

In the evening, the members of AASU and hundreds of students lighted 92 pieces of earthen lamps around the statue of the music maestro at Dighalipukhuripar.
