Accused killed Paresh Chandra Baruah for Rs 2,000, says Dispur police

GUWAHATI: Dispur Police on Friday arrested a person named Ratan Das for the gruesome murder of 72-year-old Paresh Chandra Baruah. As per reports, Das has confessed to the crime and he was working as a domestic help at Baruah’s residence. According to the police, Baruah was killed by Das, as the former owed him his dues, which was around Rs 2,000. The police said Das went to Baruah’s residence to ask him the money following which both lead to a heated argument. The accused stated that Baruah continuosly denied his dues and in fit of rage, he hit the latter with an iron rod. Das was arrested from a lodge in the city’s Last Gate area, where he was working. The 72-year-old retired engineer was killed on the evening of January 7 at his residence at the Dispur Law College road.
