Administration Gears up for Chhath Puja Celebrations in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: In view of the upcoming Chhath Puja celebrations, a District Administration meeting was held at DC office on Friday under the chairmanship of Kamrup (M) District Development Commissioner Atul Kr Sharma.

High-level officers of the Guwahati Police and district chiefs of different departments along with various Chhath Puja committees were present at the meeting to discuss peaceful celebrations of Chhath Puja in the city.

The spots selected as Puja ghats include the Brahmaputra Uzanbazar ghat till Bharalumukh, Sunsali ghat, Pandu ghat, Maligaon Railway Station ghat, Birubar Mean Bhawan ghat, Basistha ghat, Lalmati ghat, Khanapara ghat, Farm Gate ghat, Hatigaon ghat, Khanapara ghat, Bhetapara ghat, Jyotikuchi ghat, Narengi ghat, Pattharquerry ghat, Azara ghat and Chandrapur ghat.

In the meeting, District Development Commissioner Atul Kr Sharma urged all departments to ensure adequate lighting provisions and the presence of volunteers during the event along with security provisions, travel arrangements, drinking water provision, sanitation, etc.

The various Chhath Puja committees, who desired to conduct cultural programmes were asked to discuss with the police administration prior to the puja and to corporate with the police authorities so that law and order can be maintained. Also, orders were given to make arrangements for volunteers.

The District Development Commissioner also ordered the Inland Water Transport Department to cease boat services during the puja as well as keep adequate emergency life-boats at hand. APDCL was asked to ensure adequate lighting provisions. SDRF was informed to identify the danger spots at the banks of the Brahmaputra and remove the rusting boats idly lying o either sides of the bank. Fire brigades are to be alert at all times. GMC was asked to make drinking water arrangements while the various Chhath Puja committees have been informed not make use of plastic.

ADC Bipul Kr Das, DCP Traffic Prasanta Saikia, DCP Org Hemanta Kr Das, among others were also present during the meeting.
