Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) begins spade work for panchayat polls

GUWAHATI, July 22: The political parties of the state are seemingly burning mid-night oil in working out strategies as the panchayat election draws closer. On this count, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) too is not lagging behind. As per a decision of the Central Executive Committee adopted earlier, twenty Assembly constituencies of the state today witnessed meetings being held in accordance with the Central Executive Committee directive. The meetings focused on strategies to be adopted and strengthening of the organization at the grass root level in view of the upcoming panchayat polls.

Accordingly party president Atul Bora attended the meeting held in Jorhat, Keshab Mahanta at Lahorighat, Brindabon Goswami at Mangaldai, Phani Bhusan Choudhury at Mankachar, Utpal Dutta at Dhemaji, Ramendra Narayan Kalita at Batadroba, Bhupen Rai at Chenga, Manoj Saikia at Boko, Renupama Rajkhowa at Khumtai, Satyabrata Kailta at Borsola, Bhabendre Bharali at Mahmora, Pabindra Deka at Barkhetri, Prabin Hazarika at Bihpuria, Noren Sonowal at Tingkhong and Gunindra Nath at Bhabanipur.

The leaders urged the workers to speed up all preparations for the polls. Appeal was also made to contact the district committees in the run up to the finalization of the names of candidates for the panchayat polls. Party president Atul Bora made an appeal to all to make regionalism stronger by maintaining close contact with the people at the grass root level. He also asserted that the AGP is the only party that can tackle and resolve the burning local issues plaguing the state.
