AGP never withdrew its support to BJP, they are only interested in self preservation: Upamanyu Hazarika

Guwahati: Senior Advocate and Independent candidate from No 7 Guwahati Lok Sabha Constituency stated on Wednesday that the election eve alliance of AGP and BJP amply proves that politics is only about self-preservation of leaders who are in public life far beyond their expiry date.

Speaking in this regard, Hazarika stated that AGP was reduced to a 3.8% vote share in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections got a fresh lease of life with BJP alliance in 2016. They’ve again proven why the people of Assam had rightly rejected them earlier. For the BJP the Citizenship Amendment Bill is the sole instrument to preserve indigenous identity, by bringing in additional foreigners and not throw out the existing.

He also claimed that both the parties realize that their political boats are sinking and alliance only proves that they want to sink together. "It’s a tragedy for the indigenous people of Assam that the parties we chose to protect our interests, their leaders are only interested in selfish self-preservation and no thought or action on what needs to be done to protect the indigenous from becoming a minority," said Upamanyu Hazarika.

Hazarika also alleged that Asom Gana Parishad leaders joining back as Cabinet Ministers today without taking an oath clearly signifies that they never withdrew their support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), thus, keeping the alliance intact.
