AGP to meet Thackeray today

Mobilizing support against Bill

GUWAHATI, June 15: The AGP is going to rope in more regional parties outside the Northeast in the opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. A team of the AGP led by its president and minister Atul Bora is going to meet Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday and request the party to oppose the Bill in Parliament.

The AGP has been agitating and mobilizing support against the anti-national Bill at various levels in Assam and outside it. The regional party met Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the Bill. It also met Union Minister Rajnath Singh and Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) twice each and opposed the Bill. Besides raising the issue of the Bill in front of BJP’s national president Amit Shah at the last NEDA conclave held in Guwahati, the regional party also raised the Bill at the last Cabinet meeting at Dispur. The party has been staging agitations against the Bill in Assam. It is also carrying out a signature campaign against the Bill.

The Atul Bora-led AGP team which is going to meet Thakre on Saturday includes ministers Keshab Mahanta and Phani Bhushan Choudhury, besides a few senior leaders of the party.
