GUWAHATI: Minister of Agriculture Atul Bora on Friday flagged off a fleet of 20 LED screen-mounted vehicles that will display various schemes and projects taken up by the Department in different areas.

The vehicles were inaugurated during a programme held at the Directorate of Agriculture at Khanapara.

During the programme, Bora also distributed 15 tractors and other agricultural equipments that can be taken on rent by farmers from Custom Hiring Centres set up in 16 districts. The tractors and the equipments were distributed under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development scheme which was launched in the year 2016-17.

While the total cost of the 20 LED screen-mounted vehicles is Rs 2 crore, the cost ofthe tractors and other equipments is Rs. 1.6 crore.

Addressing the media persons, Bora said, "In the last four and a half years we have brought a revolution in the field of agriculture. However, there is a lack of awareness among the farmers of the State. Thus to create awareness we have launched these vehicles."

The Minister also underlined that amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the farmers of the State sold vegetables of worth around Rs. 3.5 crore outside and within Assam.
