GUWAHATI: AIIMS-Guwahati has recently started its teleconsultation (Telemedicine) service. The general public can dial the helpline numbers to consult with the specialists free of cost.

AIIMS-Guwahati is an Institute of National Importance (lNI) established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) to correct regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country and attain self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training.

The foundation stone for the Institute was laid on 26th May 2017 by the Prime Minister of India at Sibharhal, Changsari. Construction works were started after EIA and other statutory approvals in May 2019. The academic session was inaugurated on 12th January 2021 from the temporary campus in the precinct of Guwahati Medical College.

At present, academic classes for 2 batches of MBBS students comprising 50 in each are being run. Since 5th March 2022, the functioning of the Institute has been shifted to its permanent campus at Changsari. There has been material progress with the addition of buildings, infrastructures and 71 medical faculties. Departments of AIIMS-Guwahati have been conducting multiple outreach programmes in the nearby villages. Understanding local issues shall help in good research works by the faculties which will be beneficial to society, a press release said.
