Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducts plantation drive in airports across Northeast

GUWAHATI: As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration, a plantation drive was conducted at Airports Authority of India (AAI) North East Regional Headquarter, Guwahati on Tuesday.

The plantation drive started from the residential colony area led by Ravi Kant, Regional Executive Director, AAI in presence of heads of the department. A total 200 saplings of different varieties, including indigenous flowers and fruits were planted by the AAI employees on the day at the premises.

Cheering employees on the occasion, Ravi Kant also urged all to take care of the saplings once they have been planted to save the environment. He was joined by the General Managers, senior AAI officials, members of employees union, women's welfare 'Kalyanmayee' members and the employees.

At MBB Airport Agartala, 30 saplings of different fruit-bearing trees and seasonal flowering trees were planted under the leadership and supervision of Airport Director. The varieties of saplings include Mango, Tamarind, Gooseberry, May flower and Bakul flowering plants. At Lilabari Airport, children cleaned the playing area and planted saplings in the premises with their parents.

At Shillong Airport, AAI in association with India Tourism celebrated World Environment Day at the airport and presented the traditional gamosa and saplings to departing passenger as a goodwill gesture.

Similar activities were also observed at all AAI airports in the north-eastern region, including Dibrugarh, Imphal, Lilabari, Jorhat, Silchar, Shillong, Rupsi, Dimapur, Tezpur, Tezu where AAI employees along with family members also participated in the plantation programme, stated a press release.
