GUWAHATI: Around 500 members from various units of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) observed the International Women's Day at Gauhati Club on Monday. A seminar was also held on this occasion under the leadership of AIWWF (All India Working Women Forum) chairperson Pranati Dutta.

Addressing the people, AITUC general secretary Ramen Das said, "The violence against women is increasing day by day under the BJP regime. Thus, the ruling party should take steps to curb it. On the other hand, the price hike situation is affecting the people. The government has failed to control the surging prices of essential commodities."

The AITUC also demanded the government to declare March 8 as a government holiday to mark the occasion of International Women's Day.
