AIUDF releases panchayat poll manifesto

GUWAHATI: AIUDF working president Aditya Langthasa released the party’s 16-page panchayat poll manifesto at the party office in Guwahati on Friday. Releasing the manifesto, Langthasa said: “Decentralization of power is yet to be a reality in Assam. Neither the Congress did anything tangible to decentralize power, not did the BJP-led government do it. The Congress spelt doom for the entire Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) with corruption, looting and nepotism. The party used the PRI as its own property. However, the BJP that speaks of acche din has also not been able to change the situation. Corruption is very much here, putting development to a grinding halt at the panchayat level. In the last two-and-a-half years the government has not released any funds for the panchayats. Without fund how can development take place?”
