Guwahati: The All India Democratic Fund (AIUDF) on Tuesday said that the party will challenge Assam Government in the Supreme Court (SC) if they file a petition seeking re-verification of the National Registrar of Citizens (NRC).

''We will definitely move to the Supreme Court if the Assam government files a petition seeking re-verification of the NRC,'' AIUDF MLA and party General Secretary Aminul Islam said while interacting with media.

''We will file an Interlocutory Application (IA) in the Supreme Court against it,'' he added.

Interestingly, Assam Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma had suggested that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) should be conducted once again.

''We had said earlier also that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) should be reviewed and done afresh. We are in talks with the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) is going on,'' Sarma added.

Islam further said that the NRC has been prepared at a cost of Rs 1,600 crores and 56, 000 employees worked for six years ad the final draft NRC has come under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

''How the Chief Minister can say that the supervision of the Supreme Court is wrong,'' he added.
