AJYCP demands steps for safety and security of Assam youths working outside

GUWAHATI: To express concern over growing incidents of harassment and violence against youths of Assam working in other states and to demand steps for their security, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has written a letter to Union Home Minister and the Chief Ministers of eight states of the country.

Talking to media persons, AJYCP president Palash Changmai said, “Lakhs of youths of our State are employed in various companies and industries in states like Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra etc. Unfortunately, these youths who have to go outside their state in search of livelihood, are subjected to various forms of violence, physical abuse, harassment and racial discrimination.”

He further said, “In such incidents in the past, we have seen that the victims from Assam are deprived of justice and the state administration concerned does not cooperate. On May 14, 2023, a youth named Babul Bora from Assam who was working in Kerala was killed on the train at the Kisanganj railway station in Bihar while returning home on vacation. Unfortunately, the killers have not been arrested yet and the local administration has not provided any assistance to the victim’s family.”

Changmai said that the AJYCP has written to the Union Home Minister and the Chief Ministers of Delhi, Gujarat, Bihar, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa and Tamil Nadu to ensure the safety and security of the youths of Assam working in their states. The AJYCP has also written a letter to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, urging him to talk to his counterparts in the eight states so that they take steps for the safety and protection of youths of Assam.

“The unemployed youths of Assam go to other states for their livelihood. When they work in other states, they also contribute to the industrial and economic development of those states. So it is the responsibility and duty of the governments of those states to ensure the safety and security of those youths. We also demand a probe into all the unpleasant incidents that have taken place in other states against our youths,” said the AJYCP president.
