GUWAHATI: The AJYCP (Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad) started their statewide protests afresh against the contentious CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) on Monday.

Sarbananda Sonowal-led State Government and Narendra Modi-led Centre went against the sentiments of the Assamese community by enacting the CAA, said the AJYCP.

The Parishad's president Rana Pratap Barua and general secretary Palash Changmai said the CAA has never been accepted by the people of Assam. They further alleged that by taking advantage of the corona pandemic, the Centre has taken a number of anti-people decisions. "To appease capitalists, the government has brought the draft Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) 2020. If the EIA 2020 becomes an Act then capitalists will line up to exploit the natural resources in Assam," Barua asserted.

Further, the leader underlined that the anti-CAA agitation was halted due to the nationwide lockdown. Until the Act is scrapped, the agitations will continue, he stressed.

The Parishad also appealed to the people to hold demonstrations against the CAA and the draft EIA 2020 by adhering to COVID-19 protocol.

On the other hand, expressing resentment against the government, the AJYCP Guwahati City Committee activists restarted their anti-CAA agitation by forming a human chain at Narengi. Over 100 activists demonstrated by raising slogans against the CAA and also the draft Environmental Impact Asses sment (EIA) 2020.

"We will intensify our protests until the CAA is scrapped. We will throw our full weight to overthrow the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly elections," said AJYCP Guwahati City Committee president Pradip Kalita in a statement.
