GUWAHATI: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) took out processions with back flags in various areas of the State since 5 am on Saturday in protest against the Centre bringing the amended Citizenship Act into effect on Friday. Various district and regional committees of the Parishad burnt the effigies of the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and the State Chief Minister.

In a statement issued to the media on Saturday, AJYCP president Rana Pratap Baruah and general secretary Palash Changmai said that the Centre bringing the CAA into effect is nothing short of piercing peers into the chests of the Assamese people on the eve of the Bhogali Bihu. “With a view to achieving their political ambition, the BJP has enforced such a black law on the people of Assam without paying any heed to the protest against the Act in Assam. This Act is going to affect Assam the worst in the country. If this Act is not scrapped, the Assamese will be extinct from the State forever. However, the last Assamese who’ll survive in the State will continue to fight against the CAA. The AJYCP, however, is not going to allow such a catastrophe to happen in the State,” the statement said.
