Akshar Foundation organised Children’s Day with Save Environment Motto

GUWAHATI: The children of Akshar Foundation at Pamohi area of Guwahati reinforced their role towards creating a better environment through various activities and performances on the occasion of Children’s Day on Thursday. The programme was organised by Akshar in collaboration with the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya and was graced by the Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque as the Chief Guest. Prof Alaka Sarma, Managing Trustee of Akshar and Parmita Sarma, Founder of the school were actively involved during the celebration apart from teachers, children and parents.

Addressing the children, Mahbubul Hoque said, “Children must be taught to be a better human being first before teaching to build their professional career. Here the innovative Akshar school in this outskirt area of Guwahati city has set an example by creating hands on environment awareness among the children as well as the neighbourhood to save the earth we live”. The Foundation has been engaged in poverty eradication through operation of schools that supplement formal education with vocational training, business incubation, and community development. It has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with USTM last year for support to launch its Recycling Centre, which consists of a collection service for dry waste as well as a low-tech processing for sorting and reusing solid waste, a press release stated.
