Ali-Aye-Ligang celebrated by the Mising community in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Ali-Aye-Ligang was celebrated by the Mising community in Guwahati on Wednesday along with the rest of the State. The day is celebrated on the first Wednesday of Fagun in the Assamese calendar.

The members of the community in Guwahati shared their delicacies like Apong, Topulabhaat, pork, etc in Guwahati on Wednesday. Ali-Aye-Ligang is a spring festival associated with agriculture, especially with the beginning of the Ahu paddy cultivation. The festival marks the onset of sowing seeds. The name of the festival is made up of three terms, ‘Ali’, legumes, ‘Aye’, seed and ‘Ligang’, to sow.
