GUWAHATI: The All Assam Employees' Union called off its indefinite strike on Tuesday following a government order to transfer IAS officer Sadnek Singh from the Transport Department.

On November 1, 2021, Joint Secretary, Transport Department, Sadnek Singh allegedly misbehaved with and physically assaulted the Registrar of the Transport Department, Pradip Senapati in the office premises of the Paribahan Bhavan, Khanapara. After this incident, employees staged a protest on November 2, November 3 and November 8. All Assam Head of the Department Ministerial Officers' Association and the Sadao Asom Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) had also extended support to this protest. The employees called off the protest following assurances from the State Transport Minister and the Commissioner of Transport that action would be taken against the erring officer. However, as no action was taken against Singh, the employees again launched an indefinite strike on Monday. All district transport offices remained closed on Monday due to the strike. The employees demanded that Sadnek Singh should be transferred from the Transport Department and that the case registered against him in Basistha Police Station should be investigated.

However, after the government issued an order that Sadnek Singh has been transferred from the Transport Department, the All Assam Employees' Union decided to call off the indefinite strike. Sadnek Singh has now been made Joint Secretary, Transformation and Development Department.
