GUWAHATI: A team from the All Assam Koch-Rajbongshi Yuva-Chatra Sanmilani and the All Assam Koch-Rajbongshi Sanmilani jointly called on Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma at Janata Bhawan on Friday.

The major demand of the team was for the ST Status Amendment Bill to 6 communities of the State, to be tabled and implemented into an Act during the Parliamentary winter session itself. Other demands included construction of a Silarai Bhawan in every district headquarters, vacancy in State Rajya Sabha to be filled up by a member of the Koch Rajbongshi community, inclusion of indigenous Koch Rajbongshi names excluded in the final NRC without condition. Also, the team clarified that they are against a separate Bodoland, however, they insisted on a Kamatapur State.

The All Assam Koch-Rajbongshi Yuva-Chatra Sanmilani president Vaishnav Koch said, “The Chief Minister advised us to visit Delhi and place our demands before the Central Government. Heeding this, we will travel to Delhi on November 28 and meet Union Minister Amit Shah and Minister of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, Arjun Munda.”

The team cautioned that if their visit to Delhi does not bear fruit then the protests will only get more rigorous and drastic with the passing of time.
