GUWAHATI: Members of the All Assam Primary TET Qualified Teachers’ Association (AAPTQTA) demanded the release of the monthly salaries on time on Thursday, mentioning that over 51,000 teachers and officials have not received the salaries for the month of April yet.

The president of the teachers’ body, Trailokya Deka, mentioned that previously the monthly remuneration used to be credited on time, that is, by the third or fourth of each month, but recently fluctuations are being noticed on the salary dates. Mentioning that this hampers the day-to-day needs of the teachers and officials, he demanded the release of the funds on time.

Trailokya Deka said, “A total of 25,000 contractual teachers under SSA, 16,000 officials and employees of SSA, and 10,000 state pool teachers have not yet received their April salaries. It is very difficult to carry on normally if the pay dates keep on fluctuating; hence, the state government should take ample effort to ensure that the same is credited on the regular date.” He also added that before the ROP system was enforced in 2017, the central government paid 90 per cent of the salary of the teachers, while the State government paid the remaining 10 percent. But after this system was enforced, the Centre pays 50 percent of the salaries, and the state takes care of the remaining 50 percent. For the lower primary level, the Centre pays Rs 15000 while the state pays the remaining amount, and for the upper primary level, the Centre pays Rs 20000 while the state pays the remaining.

He also added, “The funds coming from the centre come in due time; fluctuation in dates of release of funds from the state government leads to late delivery of salaries to the teachers and the officials of the government. We demand that the State government release the pending amounts immediately and ensure that such incidents are not repeated.”
