GUWAHATI: The All Assam Special Police Officers' Welfare Association (AASPOWA) has raised the demand for regularization of their jobs and recognition of their fellow colleagues who have lost their live while on duty under critical condition in sensitive areas as martyrs.

Addressing the media here at Guwahati Press Club on Sunday, AASPOWA secretary Prahlad Das claimed that the government didn't recognize those SPO soldiers who had lost their lives in the hand of terrorists. Das said that it's a matter of dismay that even after putting their lives into danger in order to establish peace, the SPO soldiers are still crying for regularization of their jobs.

Das said that the SPO soldiers are being neglected by the government with some false promises in regularizing their jobs. He said, "We're suffering from uncertainty regarding our future. We need our jobs to be regularized. Our families are going through a lot of difficulty. The widows of the martyrs are living in uncertainty."

Expressing their grief over the 'taunt' that they are "a dharna party" (a group that stages protests) Das said, "We often hear people calling us a dharna party. Whereas we feel proud that trains are running on BG lines that we constructed by putting our life into danger, but at the same time we're left with no option but to protest for job security."

He added that if their long-pending demands are not fulfilled, the association is ready for a different kind of resentment against all the political leaders. "Our SPO soldiers will be ready to prohibit entry of every political leader all over Assam," he said.
