All India Professional Congress (AIPC) demands reinvestigation of Sarita Toshniwal’s murder case

GUWAHATI: A delegation led by Gaurav Somani , President of All India Professional Congress (AIPC) Assam state unit and Assam state Congress secretary met the Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, at Raj Bhavan on Sunday. The delegation submitted a memorandum with a charter of demands to the governor. The following were the demands: requesting intervention in the entire subject matter for a reinvestigation of Dr. Sarita Toshniwal's murder to unearth the truth and loopholes in the police investigation.

Gaurav Somani said, "We demand legal aid support for the Toshniwal family so that they can appeal in Gauhati High Court and challenge the verdict of Dibrugarh District Court." We place our demand to set up a special investigation team (SIT) to reinvestigate the murder case under the supervision of a senior Guwahati High Court Judge. We demand an inquiry on Assam CID officials involved in the Dr. Sarita Toshniwal murder case as to why they were not able to produce sufficient proof materials and evidence against Dr. Deepmoni Saikia in court. Further demanded, "A strong action should be taken as per law against the corrupt police officers if found guilty., state a press release.

The governor gave a patient hearing and assured that he would look into the matter. The Governor said they will see if the government can file a Suo Moto case in the High Court against the Dibrugarh District Court verdict and against the acquittal of one of the accused in the case, Dr. Deepmoni Saikia. The Governor also assured that he will take up the matter with the DGP for a departmental inquiry on Assam CID officials engaged with the Dr. Sarita Toshniwall murder case investigation as to why the CID could not produce sufficient proof against the main accused, Dr. Deepmoni Saikia, in the Dibrugarh District Court. Somani said we will continue fighting until justice is given to the Toshniwal family.
