‘Alliance is to serve interests of a coterie’: Pranab Goswami

Miffed at AGP-BJP alliance, expelled AGP member spits venom

GUWAHATI: Miffed at the AGP-BJP alliance, Pranab Goswami, who has been removed as a central executive committee member of the regional party besides one-year suspension as its primary member, said that the regional party has stitched its alliance with the BJP only to serve the interests of a coterie of its leaders.

Talking to the media at Guwahati Press Club here on Saturday, Goswami said: “My removal from the party is unconstitutional. It’s a direct insult to the district AGP committees.”

Goswami said: “The last AGP central executive committee meeting was held on February 20 this year when 90 per cent of the members present were against any alliance with the BJP. The meeting only suggested the formation of a poll strategy framing committee of the party.

On March 7, a meeting of the Guwahati Mahanagar Committee of the party was held. The meeting presided over by me issued a clear warning to any alliance with the BJP for the Lok Sabha election. The alliance that has been reached between the AGP and the BJP now is for personal interests of a few AGP leaders. This coterie of leaders wants people like us to leave the party for we can’t tolerate their act of selling the party time and again.”
