Along my Route: Srutimala Duara's book of poems earns high praise from critics

Guwahati: Dr. Srutimala Duara, a prominent writer from Assam, has once again hit the right chords with her latest volume of poems called "Along my Route".

The book of poems, dealing with a wide array of subject matters, has found acclaim in literary circles across Assam and beyond. Critics have praised Duara for her evocative collection of poetry that handles the mundane and transforms them into the transcendental, poetic, and extraordinary. Duara's 96-page volume, in a series of transformative visual images, deals with personal and sensitive subjects in a way in which it can easily be understood and related by a discerning mind.

"I enjoyed reading all the poems. And there is much to admire in them. I picked out "The Deserted House" for the mystery that pervades the poem and its dear, haunting look that lives on in the memory. "The Sacrifice" is quite differently done, a poem that makes us sympathize with the quest that's central to the poem. It shows Sruti can work her poems on a variety of themes. On the whole, there is a dark charm that emerges out of her own brooding intellect which makes her a poet of deep feeling", poet Jayanta Mahapatra said, heaping high praise on Duara's work.

"These poems emerge from an immersive landscape of childhood and poetic sensibilities of present realities. Shaped as they are by time, place, and circumstance which are essentially rooted in the soil of Assam and through it, a river flows with its intimate stories of pain, longing and lost symbols", says poet Guru T. Ladakhi. "Srutimala Duara's thoughtful poems on a variety of themes paint profound human truths through evocative images. Her linkages of the inner and outer worlds, of Nature and the urban reality, are deeply philosophical while being rooted in quotidian life."

Noted author and columnist, Mitra Phukan, lauding Duara's work, says that these thoughtful poems on a variety of themes paint profound human truths through evocative images. "Her linkages of the inner and outer worlds, of Nature and the urban reality, are deeply philosophical while being rooted in quotidian life." "With sensuous and winning images sustained by a romantic faith, Srutimala Duara's lines can enthrall one. She reaffirms Hardy's belief that mere intellectual subtlety will not hold its own against the straightforward expression of good feeling", adds poet Robin S Ngangom.
