GUWAHATI: Amidst speculations and controversies over uncertainties of Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma contesting the ensuing Lok Sabha elections from Tezpur, the BJP national president Amit Shah on Thursday tweeted that the decision regarding Sarma was taken in the best interests of the party and Assam.

“The Assam election selection committee and Assam BJP members had recommended Himanta Biswa Sarma’s name for the Lok Sabha elections. But the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) in consultation with the central leadership of the BJP has decided to let Biswa to continue to as a minister in Assam and continue the work of the NEDA chairman and continue to contribute a healthy growth of the party in Assam and the north-east,” Amit Shah tweeted.

Amit Shah further said that the party is hopeful that the decision will help in the progress and growth of Assam and the Northeast. Responding to Shah’s tweets, Sarma responded and tweeted “Respected Amit Shah ji, I am thankful to you for the trust you have shown in me. I humbly accept your decision. At a time when the country is enthusiastic about making Narendra Modi the prime minister again, the Northeast will not disappoint you.”
