GUWAHATI: Specifying national BJP president Amit Shah’s statement in New Delhi on December 23 on forty lakh infiltrators in Assam, State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Das said: “What Shah said is not the forty lakh NRC applicants who failed to make it to the complete draft NRC. His statement was a general one. It has been told many a time since the UPA government at the Centre that around 40-80 lakh infiltrators have been staying in Assam illegally.”

Ranjit Kumar Das said that the Congress was never serious of a large number of infiltrators staying illegally in Assam. “It was also not at all serious on NRC update in the State. The NRC pilot project was stalled in Assam when the Congress was in power in the State,” Das said.

Meamwhile, Ranjit Kumar Das, who completed two years as the State president of the party, thanked all leaders and cadres for their cooperation.

On NC Hill Autonomous Council poll the schedule which was announced on Sunday, Dass said: “We’re set to emerge as the single largest party. On January 2 we’re going to name our candidates for the poll. We’ve already formed an election management committee.”
