GUWAHATI: Annapurna East India Fashion Week, powered by USHA Silai School, will be organized on April 28 and 29 by the Fashion and Design Council of Northeast India. This year’s theme for the fashion week is “empowering women, weavers, and artisans. 30 designers will showcase their latest collection this year; out of them, seven will represent the GenNext designers from Northeast India in collaboration with INIFD, Guwahati.

The grand opening ceremony will be a panel discussion on women’s empowerment and safety. The panelists for the discussion are Dr. Akshata Narain, Group President, A.M. Television Pvt. Ltd.; Rosie Kalita, APS SP CM’s Vigilance; Meghna Rai Medhi, Fashion Designer; Naomi Agarwala, Social Worker; Mary Rupa Tete, Vice President, Usha Silai Schools; and Usha International. The opening show will be by the Centre of Excellence for Khadi by KVIC and NIFT, followed by a show by Antaran Assam by artisans from Kamrup and Nalbari clusters. The first day finale on April 28 will showcase the latest collection of designer Arita Kashyap’s (label: DOYNA) titles, “Syringa.” The grand finale on April 29 will celebrate the artistry and legacy of Assamese fashion designer Anuradha Kuli (Label: Naturally Anuradha).

EIFW 2023 has partnered with USHA Silai School, where selected Usha Silai School women worked under the mentorship of designers: Nandini Baruva (Label: MUSINGS) and Meghna Rai Medhi (Label: Meghnas – The Design Studio) from Assam, Tsering Dolma (Label: Kyido House of Fashion) from Sikkim, Escape Engmoia from Mizoram (Label: Escape Engmoia), and Arbin Tonjam (Label: ARBIN TONJAM) from Manipur) and will showcase the collection created by them on April 29 besides walking the ramp.

Medha Saikia, founder and president, Fashion and Design Council Northeast India, said, “This year as we celebrate our 5th anniversary, we want to thank all the designers, choreographers, models, technicians, and artists who have supported us to date. The craftsmen, the weavers, the tailors, the pattern makers—everyone will be part of our celebration and our presentations.”

Mary Rupa Tete, Vice President, Usha Silai Schools, Usha International, said, “Usha Silai School is an endeavour to uplift the livelihoods of rural women all over the country by providing them with specialized skill sets, paving the way for a better tomorrow by developing them as entrepreneurs in their own right.
