APCC demands Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to visit Baghjan blowout site

GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Wednesday demanded that the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should visit the Baghjan blowout site in Tinsukia district.

In this regard, the APCC wrote a letter to Pradhan demanding immediate intervention of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas by deploying expert team to control the situation at Baghjan.

Talking to the mediapersons at Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday, APCC president Ripun Bora urged Pradhan to visit the site physically along with senior officials and direct Oil India Limited (OIL) to compensate and rehabilitate the affected people in the area.

Bora stated, "Gas has been leaking since last 14 days in Baghjan but no initiative has been taken to contain the blowout. Thus, a massive fire erupted at the well of the Baghjan Oil Field. OIL, Petroleum Ministry and Assam Government are responsible for the incident. OIL brought experts from Singapore to neutralize the situation but the Petroleum Ministry didn't take any initiative."
