GUWAHATI: The Congress will raise its voice against the decision to privatize the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) and other airports, said APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Ripun Bora on Sunday.

The leader asserted that the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-led government has disrespected late Gopinath Bordoloi by its decision to privatize the LGBI airport.

Bora made the statements while addressing the mediapersons following a meeting with the Airport Authority Employees Union (AAEU).

The leader recalled that in 2008 then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh led-government took the decision to privatize airports. However, after privatizing the Mumbai and Delhi airport, the government received a huge backlash from the AAEU and other trade unions, following which the decision was scrapped. But the Modi government is trying to hand over the country's resources to appease the capitalists, Bora stressed.

"If the airports are privatized then there will be a threat to the country's security," the leader underlined.

Further, he said that on Monday, the APCC Kamrup (Metro) District Committee will stage a two-hour long demonstration along with the AAEU will in front of the LGBI airport to oppose the Centre's decision.
