GUWAHATI: APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) will introduce advanced technology for a power billing system showing energy consumption in detail.

Talking to newsmen today, APDCL's Consumer Relations Consultant Abhijit Sarma Baruah said, "The billing technology in mobile phones shows details of unit consumed in chatting with different persons and other uses. We are going to introduce such technology in power billing. This technology will show units of power consumed in fans, lights, ACs, fridges etc. The installation of smart meters is underway. In smart meters, consumers can read their daily consumption of power."

Admitting a few inflated power bills, Baruah said, "We have acted against readers who made such mistakes. We will adjust the excess power billing in next month's bill."

Baruah said, "The rise in temperature led to more power consumption this year. Most consumers exceed their low slab (120 units) of power consumption because of the rise in temperature. When they enter the high slab (above 120 units) of power consumption, bills almost double. Apart from this, the FPPPA (Fuel & Power Purchase Price Adjustment) surcharge of 30 paise per unit for three months - August, September and October - also increases the cost. However, the EPPPA fluctuates from time to time."

Baruah said, "Earlier, we purchased power from the Kopili project at Rs 1.40 per unit and the Karbi Langpi at Rs 2 per unit. With the closure of power generation in these two projects due to erosion, we have to buy power at Rs 7 per unit from outside."
